These days students have easy and quick access to all kinds of information; whether it is real or fake. The dilemma of modern technology is that while it has made things very easy and effective, it has also given miscreants a chance to create trouble and they do it most effectively by spreading fake or false news. This fake and false news unleashes a storm that often gets out of control and people who do not think rationally or do not know the complete story are often affected by it most.

They end up making wrong decisions or taking steps that are either not reversible or end up doing some lasting damage. This is the main reason why these days institutes all over the world encourage their students to check out the authenticity of any news they get and tackle fake news most effectively to know what is good for them.

There are so many times when students are told something they either wish or know is not true; information is on their fingertips but even then it becomes very tough to distinguish the authenticity of the news and the way it affects them. The main reason behind it is that no matter how much progress we are making with help of coursework writing services, the students are still not properly equipped to handle the constant overflow of online content and they are still adjusting to a virtual environment that is changing all the time. This is not only essential for their personal or academic growth but also for protecting the national interest and helps students to grow up into mature and responsible citizens who do not act irrationally but take time to see what is right and how they should react in certain situations.

Teachers play a very critical role here as students learn most from their teachers who are their mentors too. The teachers can guide them to engage in civil discussions and what is the difference between facts, opinions and outright lies. It is the job of teachers and parents to help the young generation and prevent them from becoming a part of the mass media where it is too complicated to make out what is right and what is wrong.

These days the students are surrounded by bad role models who only talk about a variety of issues without actually knowing how they can affect the young minds. We see anchors and experts shouting and cutting off each other on live TV, lack of decorum and discipline and provocative political statements that can misguide students. Students must be told about what they should look for in these cases and what they should accept or reject.

Due to our busy schedules, most of us do not have the time or the inclination to track down sources and verify every post we see online on social media. We just comment on it and move forward without knowing what it is all about and if it is even real or fake. The most important thing for students to do when faced with a situation is that they check out the information source and see from where it is coming from; is it coming from an authentic source or just being spewed out for fun and ratings.

Most of us believe whatever we see on social media or read in our feeds and this is most detrimental to young minds. Teachers must focus on developing students’ expertise and analytical powers as this is the only way students will learn to tackle fake news and understand what shape the world news is taking and how they must address this issue. It is because fake news, propaganda, and misinformation have the power to influence public opinion, promote violent extremism and even lead to hate speech and ultimately derail the democratic process.

A study was conducted at Stanford University and the results of this study were quite surprising. It highlighted the inability of students to identify credible news sources mainly due to the reason that they are unable to pick out the facts, overall argument and describe the source of each item. Students must also learn to critically evaluate information; they must understand that writing, reading, and research have a close connection with critical thinking and knowing how the information surrounds us, how the arguments are composed and how evidence is used can help them immensely in distinguishing the genuineness of any news they receive.
